Inspired by the golden ratio.

Size: The dimensions of this piece are 180cm X 180cm X 4.4 cm

Materials: I hand-made the wooden stretcher frame. Stretched with raw, unprimed canvas to allow for the rusting process. I handmade the majority of pigments used for this painting from steel rust and copper verdigris. Using handmade oil pastels and rust wax sticks, I drew the golden ratio-inspired diagram onto the raw canvas. Various sheets of reclaimed metal were placed strategically directly onto the canvas for a natural transfer. I have applied a variety of painting mediums combined with my handcrafted pigments to the canvas, including beeswax and damar.  Watercolour-like marks were created using natural, handmade Alder cone ink. Further texture has been added using a texture paste.

Disclaimer: My work involving rust is delicate. I have intentionally not used a fixative on this piece, allowing it to continue oxidising over time and deepen in richness and character. This means the work is not fully protected against movement and shedding.
